Some people will begin their training for Kilimanjaro in the gym. Doing strength training is a good way in which to get your body fit and healthy before the climb. You can also practice walking long distances on an incline on the treadmill. Training in the gym is only the beginning, though. You will have to move your training to the great outdoors and do a mixture of the two if you really want to ensure your success. Set aside weekends to travelling to a hilly or mountain area. Start out by doing short walks in these areas so as to get your body used to it. Once you have done this for a while, you will need to increase the hours that you walk. This is due to the fact that the shortest amount of time that you will walk for on Kilimanjaro is 4 hours. The longest could be up to 8 hours! It is advisable to also do an overnight hike, as you will be climbing during the night and early hours of the morning while summiting the mountain. Training for Kilimanjaro is as simple as learning how to walk. There are no fancy bells and whistles, but you will need to get your body in the best shape you possibly can before attempting the climb. Regardless of your age, weight or body shape, you can climb this beautiful mountain as long as you have the right amount of training.
